Ford Motor Company announced a recall of over 450,000 2010 and 2011 model Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan midsize sedans, with over 411,000 of those in the United States, for fuel tanks than can crack and possibly leak fuel that could result in a vehicle fire.

The problem involves a fuel canister purge valve that can stick thereby causing repeated pressure changes which could in turn cause the top of the fuel tank to crack and leak fuel. At no cost to customers, dealers will inspect the affected valve and fuel tank, and replace one or both if there is evidence of a sticking valve or a crack in the fuel tank. Dealers will also update powertrain software at the time of recall.

Thankfully, Ford has not received any reports of injuries, accidents or vehicle fires because of the problem and we credit Ford for their quick response in ordering this recall.

The recall will begin January 11, 2016. Ford’s recall number is 15S34. Affected vehicle owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 866-436-7332 or if you know your VIN# (Vehicle Identification Number) you may input that at https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/maintenance/recalls.html for more information. Owners may also contact the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) at www.safercar.gov or call the Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.

Our Utah car accident lawyers warn that weather-related accidents can cause serious problems for motorists.     On the roadway, there are a lot of things we can control. We can control how fast we drive, how aggressively or courteously we treat other motorists, whether we use cell phones or other distractions while driving, and whether we obey the posted traffic signals. Although some of these choices are in violation of the law and can result in traffic citations, we have the freedom to choose whether we make them or not, thus choosing to make the road a safer or more dangerous place for ourselves and other motorists.

It’s that time of year when that favorite Christmas gift or toy needs a battery. Batteries are widely used in a variety of devices and because they are so common, people may not be aware of some dangers they may be exposed to when handling certain types of batteries. Two immediate dangers are:

1. Fire or explosion due to a short circuit or improper charging and
2. Leakage of corrosive liquid.

Client

So often, one of the main concerns we hear from new clients is how am I going to pay my hospital bill, ambulance and treatment bills when I do not have private medical insurance. Most people are under the misguided notion that the responsible party will pay all their medical expenses up front. The responsible party and his or her carrier is not required to pay these expenses up front and in the majority of cases, they don’t which means you are responsible for them.

During the winter storms, we caution about the slick roads and dangerous conditions that can cause automobile accidents or a pedestrian accident as we scurry across parking lots and crosswalks on the way to a shopping mall.  However, this time of year we also test the capacity of our electrical outlets and extension cords with our Christmas trees and lights strung inside and out.  Test your smoke detectors (and your carbon monoxide detector, if you have one) by pushing the test button and holding for 10 seconds. If either the smoke detector or the carbon monoxide detector doesn’t work it is time to replace!
